VEACH, Lillie MURPHY
Submitted by Cindy McCachern
Clark County (IL) Democrat, 31 May 1939--Lillie Veach, daughter of
Amaziah and Missouri Murphy was born in Dolson Township in Clark
County, March 28, 1871, and departed this life at her home in
Auburn, May 25, 1939, aged 68 years, one month and twenty-seven
days.
She was united in marriage to Arthur Veach in 1886. To this
union were born eight children, three having preceded her in
death. Those surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Hattie Hurst
and Mrs. Vada Shaffner, and three sons, Hurley, Obe and Otto Veach,
all living in Auburn township; one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Wallace of
Marshall and one brother, Hurley Murphy of Auburn, and also 12
grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her
departure.
She was converted and baptized and joined the Christian Church at
Five Points, nearly forty years ago, where she and her husband were
active in all Christian work of this vicinity. The pastors who
came to their home always found a warm ewelcome.
She was a kind and devoted companion, a loving mother, and a
charitable neighbor, always ready to help those in need. She
devoted much of her time caring for those who were sick and in
distress.
Dearest mother, how we miss you,
Since your gentle voice is stilled.
And the great place now is vacant,
Which never can be filled.
But by God's unfailing promise,
You've just gone ahead to wait,
Dearest mother and we'll meet you
There inside the Eastern Gate.
The funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock
at the Green Moss church, with Rev. J. I. O'Neal officiating, with
burial in the adjoining cemetery.
The pallbearers were: John Murphy of Monticello, Zenas Murphy
of Clarksville, Henry Murphy of Clarksville, Cleo Murphy of Oakland,
Harry McHenry of Fontanet and Jerry Claypool of Clarksville.
Those taking care of the flowers were: Mrs. Edith Holwick,
Misses Irene, Fay, Fern, Goldie, Lillie June, Flo and Carolyn Veach,
Mrs. Evelyn Veach and Martha Higginbotham.
