My grandfather was named William Ira Staton and was the son of John P. Staton and Ellen Margaret Donalds Staton.  After he was married to Anna Emma Rinkel and living with his family in E. St. Louis, and working on the railroad, he changed his sirname to Donals and moved his family to Texarkana, Arkansas.  No one in the family ever talked about this, or the reason why, and now everyone is dead that would know the answer.  My mother's sirname was changed from Staton To Donals, and she either did not know or never said anything about it.  I did not find this out until she died, and I sent off for a death certificate!.
